To be honest, a very high percentage of college athletes do not go pro—big surprise, right? The bigger surprise is how many truly think they will go pro with no problem. The numbers just aren’t in your favor as a student athlete, and that’s OK. If you do go pro, that’s great! It can certainly happen if your skill level takes you in that direction. Although if it doesn’t happen, a career your passionate about is something you can fall back on and still maintain your competitive edge. That is one of the key reasons it was decided to create this guide in the first place. Making absolutely sure that all your eggs aren’t neatly placed in one basket.
It’s a known fact that you can still get healthy, competitive satisfaction out of almost any career as long as you find it interesting. You will not only have the competition of your coworkers on a daily basis, you will have the competition of another company team who is working to beat your internal group of team members. The environment you’ll be in will most likely be just as team oriented as the sporting environment you’ve known your whole life. It’s amazing how it’s proven everyday how similar an athletic career is to almost any profession. This is outside the physicality of playing sports, of course.
You can also take some comfort in the fact that quality educated people needed in the workforce isn’t going away anytime soon. Creative minds are going to be needed to push technology to its limits. You’ll get the chance to work with people that will help put your skills into action. The world of the internet was a great blessing for everyone coming out of school and continues to be. Certain jobs would not have even existed 10 years ago, and you can only imagine the jobs that continue to be created for people across all professions.
What you’ve read up to this point isn’t about telling you this is how it is or else, please don’t mistake the guide in that way. Everything you read here is meant to be motivating and keep you excited about choosing a solid career path, and helping you remember athletics isn’t everything.
